Suspect in 1986 Shonda May Murder Case Dies in Custody

December 7, 2025 — Rubin Weeks, 63, who was awaiting trial in connection with the 1986 abduction, rape, and murder of Shonda May, has died while in custody, officials confirmed today.

Weeks was found unresponsive around 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. Authorities say that while the cause of death has not yet been released, early findings do not indicate foul play. An autopsy has been ordered.

Weeks was charged on April 29, 2025, after new investigative evidence revived the nearly 40-year-old cold case and led to his arrest earlier this year.

Officials emphasize that the preliminary investigation shows no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Additional details are expected as the inquiry continues.
