Tribal Member Struck on Hwy 16 West Early Thursday; Investigation Ongoing

HIGHWAY 16 WEST,Choctaw, Miss. — An early morning accident involving a pedestrian and a Choctaw Police Department patrol vehicle occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026, on Highway 16 West.

The incident happened in the 12000 block of Highway 16 West near the Pow WowConvenience store.

Tthe pedestrian, identified onaly as a tribal member, was transported to a local hospital in Meridian for medical treatment. The extent of the individual’s injuries has not been released, but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
