Hand-grabbing season is open! From May 1 through July 15, Mississippians are hitting the water for one of the state’s most thrilling fishing traditions.

Hand-grabbing might seem wild to some, but it’s a time-honored practice here in Mississippi—one of the few states with a dedicated season for it.

If you’re brave enough to reach into those underwater holes, you just might land a giant! Some of the biggest blue and flathead catfish in the state are caught this way every year.
