One in Custody Following Overnight Shooting in Newton

NEWTON, Miss. — The Newton Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting that occurred Tuesday night in the area of East First Street Extension.

According to preliminary information, one suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

Authorities have not released details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Newton Police Chief McKenzie Patrick is expected to provide additional information later today as the investigation continues.
