Murder in Meridian: One Person in Custody After Deadly Stabbing on Church Ave

Meridian, MS — A man was fatally stabbed Saturday night in the 900 block of Church Avenue, according to the Meridian Police Department. The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m.

Authorities say a disagreement between individuals escalated, ultimately leading to the stabbing. Responding officers detained one person at the scene, and that individual is currently in custody.

Meridian Police Department investigating fatal stabbing on Church Avenue

The Meridian Police Department responded tonight at approximately 7:50 PM to a report of a male subject lying in the yard of a residence in the 900 block of Church Avenue.

Upon arrival officers located the individual and observed that he had sustained apparent stab wounds. After further investigation, officers determine the subject was deceased at the scene.

Assistant Chief Dareall Thompson said, “A suspect was taken into custody immediately, and without incident. Investigators are currently interviewing the individual. No charges have been filed at this time and no names are being released, pending further investigation.”

Preliminary information indicates the incident stemmed from an argument between two individuals, and the stabbing occurred as a result of that altercation. The Meridian Police Department emphasizes that this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
