High-Speed Chase in Waynesboro Ends in Arrest; Officer’s Patrol Car Struck Head-On

Saturday, officers with the Waynesboro Police Department - Mississippi were involved in a high-speed pursuit that began after an attempted traffic stop for a seat belt violation.

According to WPD, an officer attempted to stop a yellow Ford Mustang, but the driver fled, reaching speeds of over 100 mph. During the chase, the suspect reportedly drove on the wrong side of the highway, heading into oncoming traffic and creating a severe risk to the public.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old LaJadakiss Bender, was taken into custody after he struck a WPD patrol vehicle head-on. The crash caused the Mustang to veer into a ditch, disabling the vehicle. Bender then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.

Authorities say Bender will be transported to the Wayne County Jail and is facing multiple felony charges, including:

Felony Fleeing

Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer

Possession of a Controlled Substance

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may follow.
