On Charged with Arson at Kemper County Correctional Facility

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, at approximately 2:43 p.m., while housed in the F-Zone lockdown area of the Kemper/Neshoba Regional Correctional Facility located at 374 Stennis Industrial Park Road in DeKalb, Kemper County, inmate Jamarius Rush allegedly used a lighter to ignite personal belongings inside his cell.

Rush reportedly began by burning Styrofoam cups and later escalated to clothing and other items, placing them outside his cell through the food tray slot. The repeated ignition of materials caused him to sustain burn injuries to his right hand.

By setting fires within a confined area, Rush endangered himself, other inmates, and facility staff. He has been charged with (1) count of Arson and issued a Bond in the amount of $10,000 with a mandatory court date of Monday, October 27, 2025.
