Tennessee Governor Announces Plan to Honor Dolly Parton at Nashville Airport

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport have announced plans to name the airport in honor of country music legend Dolly Parton, creating a lasting tribute to her legacy and the generations of people she has inspired across Tennessee and around the world. Governor Lee said he spoke with Parton’s team this week about the proposal, and her representatives expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support while remaining open to continuing discussions about the tribute.

Governor Lee said Nashville International Airport is an appropriate place to honor Parton because it serves as a gateway where Tennessee welcomes visitors from around the world. Born in Sevier County, Parton became a global music icon while remaining closely connected to her Tennessee roots. Her impact has extended well beyond music through her philanthropy, including the Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library, which has provided hundreds of millions of free books to children around the world.

The proposal is intended to create a permanent tribute to Parton’s music, generosity, faith and kindness and recognize the lasting impact she has had on Tennessee and people around the world.
