Shuwaski Young Responds to U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on Mail-In Ballots

PHILADELPHIA, MS — 2027 Republican candidate for Mississippi Secretary of State Shuwaski Young issued the following statement today after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Mississippi's law permitting certain mail-in ballots that are postmarked by Election Day to be counted after Election Day:

“While I respect the Court's decision, I respectfully disagree with the policy it permits. Election Day

should mean exactly that - Election Day. Every legal vote should be cast, received, and counted by the

close of Election Day.

The longer ballots continue to arrive after the polls close, the more public confidence in our elections is

tested.

“Mail-in voting should remain restricted to those with a legitimate need, including our seniors, members

of the military serving our nation, and college students who are away from home.

“The integrity of our elections is not a partisan issue, it is fundamental to preserving the trust of every

Mississippi voter.”
