One Taken Into Custody After Crash on I-20

An out-of-town power company truck crashed late Monday night on Interstate 20 near mile marker 150 westbound.

According to authorities, the driver traveled onto the frontage road at 65th Avenue, allegedly believing it was I-20. When the roadway ended, the truck traveled through brush and crashed into the Okatibbee River. The power company truck was fully submerged on its side in the water.

The driver and a passenger were able to exit the vehicle and walked to the Queen City Truck Stop, where they called 911 at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Meridian Police Department officers responded and began a search of the area. Fire Chief Michael β€œTed” Evans located the truck from I-20 and requested additional emergency personnel at the scene. The LEMA dive team was called in to assist Simmons Wrecker Service in attaching chains to recover the vehicle.

The driver was allegedly arrested for DUI at the Queen City Truck Stop.
