MPD SWAT Team Activated Following Shooting inMeridian

Meridian, MS — The Meridian Police Department activated its SWAT team Tuesday night following a shooting that prompted a large law enforcement response near 30th Avenue and 17th Street.

According to preliminary information, multiple gunshots were fired in the area, with approximately 25 rounds discharged. A nearby residence was also struck by gunfire. Several individuals were detained at the scene; however, no arrests or charges have been announced at this time.

Authorities later located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the 800 block of 16th Street, roughly 1.6 miles from the initial shooting location. It remains unclear how the victim traveled from the original scene to where he was found.

Police indicated that the incident does not appear to be a robbery. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition as of the latest update.

Multiple agencies responded, including Metro Ambulance, the Meridian Fire Department, MPD Gang Unit, and K-9 units.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities emphasize that details may change as more information becomes available.
