Meridian’s 7th Homicide of the Year

The Meridian Police Department is investigating the city’s seventh homicide of 2026 after a man was found lying in the street near the intersection of 17th Street and 33rd Avenue just before 11 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Once the scene was determined to be safe, Metro Ambulance and the Meridian Fire Department were called to assist.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

This marks Meridian’s seventh homicide of the year and the third homicide reported in the city during September. In addition to the homicides, at least five other people have been shot in Meridian during the first two weeks of the month.

The Meridian Police Department continues to investigate the shooting. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
