Homeowner Euthanizes Monkey in Jasper County

JASPER COUNTY, MS — Early this morning, a Jasper County homeowner reported an unusual encounter when she discovered a monkey on her property.

Jessica Bond-Ferguson said she was alerted by her dog barking around 6:00 a.m. and went outside to investigate. To her surprise, she found a monkey sitting on her porch.

According to Ferguson, she euthanized the animal before contacting local authorities. Officers arrived within approximately 30 minutes, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and and Parks collected the remains for further examination.

Residents in the area near Highway 503 are urged to stay alert and report any sightings of unusual wildlife to local authorities.
