The City of Meridian Parks and Recreation Department honored veteran lifeguard and swim instructor Charles Rico Scott II during a special dedication ceremony on Wednesday at Highland Park.

A memorial post has been placed at the entrance of the park's pool in Scott's honor. He served at both the Highland and Velma Young Park pools from 2009 to 2018 and passed away in 2020 at the age of 33.

Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Thomas Adams remembered Scott not only for his dedication to safety but also for his commitment to the community.

"For many summers, Charles faithfully served at Highland and Velma Young pools, ensuring the safety of swimmers while teaching generations of children the life-saving skill of swimming. His patience, kindness, and commitment made him much more than a lifeguard — he was a mentor, role model, and friend."

A $500 donation was made to Meridian Parks and Recreation by the Charles Rico Scott II Memorial Foundation.
