Meridian Investigating 5th Homicide of 2026 as Four People Shot Over Labor Day Weekend

The Meridian Police Department will hold a press conference this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. to provide an update on the city’s fifth homicide of 2026, which occurred Friday. Police are expected to release additional information about the case during the press conference.

The homicide led up to a weekend of violence in Meridian that saw four people shot in separate incidents.

Sunday night, three people were reportedly shot at Western Gardens. A baby was among those injured and was airlifted to Jackson for medical treatment. Additional information about the condition of the other victims has not been released.

A separate shooting occurred shortly after midnight at Azalea Park Apartments. One person was shot and suffered an injury to the hand.

The Meridian Police Department continues to investigate the shootings and homicide. More information is expected to be released during Monday afternoon’s 4:30 p.m. press conference
