Former Red Sox Pitcher Oil Can Boyd Speaks Out After Vehicle Burglarized in Meridian

MERIDIAN — Former Major League Baseball pitcher Dennis Boyd, better known as "Oil Can" Boyd, is speaking out after his vehicle was burglarized early Monday morning in Meridian.

According to reports, several vehicles were broken into before daylight in the 4400 block of King Road. One of the targeted vehicles belonged to Boyd, a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.

To say Boyd was upset would be an understatement.

Boyd said he felt disrespected in his hometown and expressed frustration over the incident. He specifically called on the person responsible for stealing a bag from his vehicle to return it along with its contents.

Boyd emphasized that he wants the individual who took the bag to return it personally, not through a friend or associate.

Following the burglary, Boyd spoke with the Meridian Police Department and provided a statement regarding the theft.

Residents in the area reported seeing three masked men walking through the neighborhood breaking into vehicles. Witnesses said the suspects were later picked up by someone waiting on the main roadway near King Road.

The burglary is part of what residents describe as a recent increase in vehicle break-ins across Meridian. Just last Friday, the Country Club Drive area was reportedly targeted by thieves in a similar series of incidents.

Authorities continue to investigate the burglaries. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Meridian Police Department.
