Man Hospitalized with Severe Burns After Suspected Arson Fire; Suspect in Custody
Philadelphia, MS- Authorities are investigating a structure fire that left one man severely burned early Monday morning.
At approximately 3:45 a.m., members of the Philadelphia Police Department and local fire crews responded to reports of a residential fire on Loper Street. Upon arrival, first responders found the home fully engulfed in flames.
Emergency personnel discovered an adult male suffering from severe burn injuries believed to have been sustained during the fire. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released.
According to preliminary findings, investigators believe the fire was intentionally set. A male suspect was taken into custody shortly after the blaze began. Authorities allege the suspect started the fire before leaving the residence.
The suspect is currently being held at Leake County Jail pending further investigation and potential charges.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting local authorities as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
