Public Works Freshwater Division Achieves Major Milestone

Since Mayor Percy Bland’s administration began on July 1, 2025, the City of Meridian’s Freshwater Division has made significant strides in performance, professionalism, and public service while earning statewide recognition for excellence.

Under the leadership and support of the Bland administration, the Freshwater Division has achieved major accomplishments in less than one year, including receiving a perfect score during its annual inspection by the Mississippi Department of Health.

In addition, the City of Meridian recently earned 1st Place in the Mississippi Rural Water Association’s Best Tasting Water Competition, a distinction that will now send Meridian to compete at the national level in Washington, D.C.

Mayor Percy Bland said he is incredibly proud of the Freshwater Division and the work being done every day by the employees who help serve the people of Meridian.

“I could not be more proud of our Freshwater team,” said Mayor Bland. “These employees show up every single day committed to excellence, committed to serving our citizens, and committed to doing things the right way. What they have accomplished in such a short period of time speaks volumes about their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication. They are difference makers each day.”

Mayor Bland said the accomplishments also reflect the administration’s focus on strengthening essential city services and supporting the employees who make those services possible.

“When you invest in people, support your departments, and create a culture of accountability and pride, good things happen,” Bland added. “This recognition belongs to the hardworking men and women of our Freshwater Division, and our city is grateful for what they continue to accomplish.”

City officials also recognized the support and collaboration of the Public Works Department, utility plant operators, and city leadership whose combined efforts continue to strengthen Meridian’s infrastructure and daily operations.

The City of Meridian says these achievements are part of a broader commitment to improving services, building momentum, and creating a stronger future for Meridian residents.
