Major Drug Trafficking Organization Dismantled in Mississippi

A multi-agency investigation targeting the flow of controlled substances into the Metro Area has resulted in significant seizures and the arrest of two suspects linked to a large-scale drug trafficking operation.

Traffic Stop Sparks Major Discovery

On the evening of Wednesday, November 12, 2025, officers with the Puckett Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Suburban traveling along Highway 18 in Rankin County. During the stop, officers uncovered approximately 120 pounds of high-grade marijuana, prompting immediate coordination with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.

Intensive Investigation Uncovers Distribution Hub

Following the discovery, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office and the Rankin/City of Madison Interdiction Task Force launched an intensive investigation into the shipment’s origin. Intelligence developed soon after indicated that large quantities of marijuana were being stored in the Metro Area and distributed to several locations throughout Mississippi.

By early Friday morning, November 14, investigators had gathered enough information to secure a search warrant for a rented warehouse and office space near Jackson International Airport.

Warehouse Search Yields Major Seizure

Upon executing the warrant, investigators discovered roughly 500 pounds of high-grade marijuana and a substantial amount of U.S. currency. Authorities believe the marijuana originated from California, arriving in bulk shipments before being divided into smaller quantities for statewide distribution.

Two Suspects in Custody; More Arrests Anticipated

Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the operation:

SUSPECTS

Jose De Jesus Vasquez Estrada, 26, Modesto, CA

Karissa Renee McDonald, 23, Modesto, CA

Both were booked on charges of Trafficking a Schedule I Controlled Substance. The District Attorney’s Office is expected to present the defendants before Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow for their initial appearance.

Multi-Agency Collaboration Highlighted

The investigation, which remains ongoing, involved the coordinated efforts of the Puckett Police Department, Madison Police Department, Brandon Police Department, Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, and members of the DEA/HIDTA Drug Task Force.

Authorities estimate the total street value of the seized marijuana to be well over $1 million. Additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues to unfold.
