Newton Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Charges, Including Firearm Offense

A routine traffic stop in Newton resulted in multiple charges against a local driver, according to the Newton Police Department.

Officers conducted the stop in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive after observing a violation of the City of Newton’s noise ordinance. During the course of the stop, officers identified the driver as Richard Russell.

As a result of the investigation, Russell has been charged with:

Violation of the City of Newton’s noise ordinance

Driving with a suspended license

No insurance

Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Authorities did not release additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the firearm charge.

In a statement addressing the incident, Chief McKenzie Patrick emphasized the department’s commitment to consistent enforcement.

Newton Police Department will continue to enforce the city’s ordinances and state laws no matter how big or small they are.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
