Claiborne County Deputy Killed in the Line of Duty

A Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been killed in the line of duty following a shooting near Hermanville, Mississippi. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

According to MBI, deputies were attempting to disperse a crowd in the parking lot of Michael Dean’s Convenience Store around midnight when gunshots were directed toward the crowd.

A female bystander was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A Claiborne County deputy was also shot and taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

MBI agents are currently investigating the incident and gathering evidence. Once the investigation is completed, agents will present their findings to the local District Attorney’s Office and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.

Officials say this information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues. Additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
