Lauderdale County Residents Unaffected by Meridian Ambulance Service Change

Residents living in the unincorporated areas of Lauderdale County will not be impacted by the City of Meridian's recent decision to change ambulance service providers.

During Tuesday's meeting, the Meridian City Council voted to establish its own Emergency Medical Service (EMS) District. As a result, ambulance service for residents within the Meridian city limits will transition from Metro Ambulance to Pafford EMS.

The change applies only to residents inside the city limits. Those living in unincorporated Lauderdale County will continue receiving emergency medical services from Metro Ambulance.

Metro Ambulance Executive Director Kevin Smith said the organization remains committed to serving county residents without interruption.

"We will continue to operate as we've operated and take care of everybody in Lauderdale County," Smith said.

County residents can expect no changes to emergency ambulance response or service as Metro Ambulance continues providing EMS coverage throughout Lauderdale County outside the City of Meridian.
