PROM SAFETY MESSAGE

Meridian, Mississippi Police Department

Prom season is a special time for our students, families, and schools. It is a time to celebrate, make memories, and enjoy the moment. At the Meridian Police Department, our priority is simple. We want every student to have a great night and get home safely.

We are asking everyone to make smart choices and look out for one another.

Do not drink and drive. If you are under 21, do not consume alcohol. Follow all traffic laws, including speed limits, especially in neighborhoods and near schools.

Be aware of your surroundings. Watch for reckless or impaired drivers, and remember that officers will be out across the city, including safety checkpoints, to help keep our community safe.

Be mindful of what you consume. Do not accept drinks or substances from others if you are unsure of what they are. Make decisions that protect your health and your future.

Plan ahead. Travel with people you trust. Stay together. Make sure everyone in your group has a safe way home.

This is a night to remember. Let’s make sure it is remembered for all the right reasons.

Assistant Chief Dareall Thompson:

“Prom night should be about celebration, not consequences. Make smart choices, stay aware, and look out for each other. One good decision can make all the difference.”

Assistant Chief Patrick Gale:

“We want every student to enjoy the night and return home safely. Follow the law, stay focused, and do not take unnecessary risks that could change your future.”

Chief Malachi Sanders:

“Our responsibility is to protect this community, and that includes our young people on one of the most important nights of their year. We will be present, we will be proactive, and we will do everything we can to ensure a safe and successful prom season.”
