September 30, 2025
The Newton Police Department was allocated $200,000 from a 2023 Mississippi Legislature Appropriation Bill authored by Senator Tyler McCaughn. The $200,000 allocated was stimulated for vehicles and equipment for the Newton Police Department. The following items were purchased:
- 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV
- 2024 Chevrolet Silverado PPV
- Motorala Body-Worn Cameras
- Axon Tasers
- Enhanced Duty Weapon Holsters
- 4 Head Surveillance Cameras
Vehicles
The Newton Police Department purchased two brand new vehicles, placing two more vehicles in rotation for officers to perform their duties. This purchase works hand-in-hand with our long-term goal of upgrading and expanding our fleet to meet the demands of the job.
Equipment
The Newton Police Department purchased cutting edge body-worn cameras through Motorala, tasers from Axon, and enhanced duty weapon holsters to provide our officers with up-to-date equipment that will keep both the officers and citizens safe.
Surveillance Cameras
The Newton Police Department deployed 4 Head Surveillance Cameras at key intersections throughout the City of Newton, providing complete coverage from four separate angles. This crime fighting tool will aid investigations and provide an overhead watch for both citizens and businesses.
“We start by thanking Senator Tyler McCaughn for authoring and pushing this bill through the finish line! We would also like to thank former Chief Randy Patrick, former Mayor Antonio Hoye and Board of Aldermen, City Attorney Brian Mayo for their work in securing, advocating, and approving our package for the use of these funds. A special thank you to City Clerk Charlene Evans and former Deputy City Clerk Demarius Evans for helping our department develop this package of purchases, ensuring that we follow all applicable laws and regulations, and working to make sure we made the best use of our funds.
