One Shot at Highland Park in Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. — A shooting in the Highland Park area is under investigation this evening.

The Meridian Police Department responded to reports of shots fired around 6:30 p.m. at Highland Park.

Sources say a male subject was struck by gunfire in the upper chest area.

The victim was initially transported by a private vehicle, which later stopped after meeting a Meridian fire Truck near 30th Avenue and 20th Street. From there, the individual was transferred by Metro Ambulance Service and taken to a local hospital.

Sources indicate the victim was responsive and speaking when emergency crews arrived.

The Meridian Police Department continues to investigate the incident. No further details, including information about a suspect, have been released at this time.
