Update on March 8 Kidnapping Investigation- Clarke County

Clarke County, MS — March 11, 2026

The Clarke County Sheriff's Department has provided an update regarding the kidnapping investigation that began on March 8, 2026.

According to Clarke County Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Major Shane Harper, Robert Gaines has been arrested in connection with the case and is being charged as an adult.

Major Harper stated that Gaines’ total bond has been set at $85,000.

Gaines has been formally charged with the following offenses:

Child P********* – $20,000 bond (Felony)

Statutory R*** – $20,000 bond (Felony)

Kidnapping – $20,000 bond (Felony)

Shooting Into a Dwelling – $15,000 bond (Felony)

Motor Vehicle Taking – $10,000 bond (Felony)

Major Harper also stated that the arrest follows an investigation lasting more than three weeks, involving multiple crimes allegedly committed by or involving Gaines.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as the case develops.
