One Detained After Early Morning Fire

Meridian, MS — One person was taken into custody/detained early Thursday morning after a small fire was discovered at a business on Front Street.

According to authorities, a private security company making routine rounds around 1:30 a.m. noticed smoke coming from the business. Upon checking the property, the security guard reportedly found a man in a break area who had set his shirt and other items on fire.

The guard immediately contacted 911, and officers with the Meridian Police Department responded to the scene. The man was taken into custody without incident.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and no significant damage was reported. The incident remains under investigation.
