Meridian City-County Council - Provides No Funding To Jimmie Rodgers Festival.
Many of you, as I did grew up going to the the JRMF Festival. Sam Marshal and Ken Rainey's name was known throughout Nashville in every booking agency and record rep. In May of each year, everyone waited for the list of entertainers that would headline the festival. Legends such as Waylon, Conway, George Strait, to Alan Jackson have all been to Meridian. The festival has had its ups and downs through the years but always pulled through.
The City Council of Meridian through an anonymous vote, has voted not to fund the festival this year. JRMF asked for $60,000 for 2024 and received $0 funds. Last year (2023) the city provided $20,000 for the event. There are other groups also that did not receive money this year as well. On Tuesday the Meridian City Council will host a work session that will give JRMF and others a chance to plead their case who did not receive money.
