At approximately 10:30 p.m. last night the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department was conducting a roadside safety checkpoint in the 6400 block of North Hills Street as a part of our Click or Ticket campaign. A vehicle approached the clearly marked checkpoint and abruptly did a U-turn in the roadway. The vehicle then fled on North Hills Street back towards State Boulevard Extension. The driver Devonte Akua Jackson lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. Jackson and a female passenger were taken to a local Emergency Department and treated for minor injuries. Jackson was booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Facility and charged with various misdemeanor traffic charges and a felony charge of Fleeing and Eluding in a Motor Vehicle. Jackson also had an outstanding Failure to Appear warrant from the Lauderdale County Justice Court. Bond was set at $25,000 for the Fleeing and Eluding charge.
