East Mississippi Electric Power Association is preparing to send 19 employees including linemen, servicemen and engineers to Peace River Electric Cooperative, Inc., headquartered in Wauchula, Florida, to aid in power restoration efforts following Hurricane Ian.

Peace River Electric’s service territory experienced some of its worst weather to date in Ian, which made landfall in Florida on Wednesday afternoon as a category 4 storm. Peace River Electric reported on Thursday morning that 88 percent of its more than 55,200 members were currently without power.

EMEPA crews from DeKalb and Meridian are scheduled to depart from EMEPA’s Meridian office at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sep. 30. Quitman crews are scheduled to follow from EMEPA’s Quitman office at 9 a.m. These crews will join more than 500 out-of-state workers in assisting with Peace River Electric's power restoration effort.
