Deadly Weekend in Mississippi: Homecoming Celebrations Turn Violent, Leaving 9 Dead

Mississippi – What was meant to be a weekend of celebration turned into tragedy across several Mississippi towns as violence erupted during homecoming events, leaving at least 9 people dead and over a dozen injured.

The most deadly incident occurred in Leland, where six people were killed and ten others injured in a mass shooting late Friday night. Authorities say the shooting took place during a crowded homecoming gathering.

In Heidelberg, two people lost their lives and another was injured during homecoming festivities.

In Rolling Fork, one person was injured during a separate shooting incident, while in Alcorn State University, one person was killed and two others suffered gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, at Jackson State University, one person was injured, and several vehicles were reported burned as violence broke out near campus during homecoming events.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves condemned the violence, calling the shootings "senseless acts of violence" and "those responsible would be brought to justice."
