Choctaw County Sheriff's Office have been investigating several thefts
We have been investigating several thefts involving side by sides, four wheelers, lawnmowers, and trailers across the county, and through those investigations we’ve identified some common patterns. In many cases, the suspects are riding around during the daytime on public roads looking for items that are visible and easy to access. If they can see it from the road, it often becomes a target. They will then come back later, typically during the early morning hours between 2:00 and 4:00 am while people are asleep, and take the item. In several cases, the equipment had keys left in it or valuables inside, and many locations did not have cameras or any type of security in place.
There are a few simple steps that can help reduce your risk. Keep equipment out of sight from the road when possible, remove the keys, and don’t leave valuables inside. Consider using cameras and basic security measures like chains or locks. It’s also a good idea to write down your VIN numbers and keep a record of your equipment ahead of time. Be mindful of what you share publicly about your property.
We are actively working these cases, but taking a few precautions can go a long way in helping protect your property.
