Mother Charged After 3-Year-Old Shot in Meridian

The Meridian Police Department is now investigating the shooting of a 3-year-old child after the incident was originally reported as an apparent accidental shooting. The incident occurred Monday in the 4300 block of 30th Street during an altercation between a husband and wife inside a residence.

According to Assistant Chief Thompson, a firearm discharged during the altercation, striking the child in the arm. The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have now taken the child’s mother into custody. She is expected to face felony child abuse and aggravated domestic violence charges. Her name has not been released at this time.

Judge Dustin Markham set Bond as Follows:

Felony Child Abuse-$200,000

Aggravated Domestic Violence $100,000

Total Bond $300,000
