The Meridian, Mississippi Police Department recently conducted a citywide "Safe Streets Initiative”

The Meridian, Mississippi Police Department recently conducted a citywide "Safe Streets Initiative", focused on enhancing public safety, reducing criminal activity, and addressing quality of life concerns across our community.

Over the course of three days, officers conducted 77 traffic stops, established six safety checkpoints, and made five DUI arrests.

Proactive enforcement efforts also included addressing loitering concerns, monitoring high traffic areas, and serving outstanding warrants.

During one operation, officers responded to a loitering complaint at a local convenience store. A suspect fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. During the investigation, officers recovered a backpack containing more than eight ounces of marijuana and a stolen handgun. The individual now faces multiple felony charges.

Chief Malachi Sanders emphasized the department’s ongoing commitment to proactive policing.

“Our officers are being intentional about going where the issues are and addressing them head on. This is about protecting our neighborhoods, improving quality of life, and making sure our community continues to move forward safely.”

This initiative reflects the kind of consistent, proactive work our officers are doing every day. These efforts will continue as part of normal operations, with a focus on keeping our streets safe and our neighborhoods strong.

We encourage all residents to stay aware, stay engaged, and partner with us as we continue building a safer Meridian.
