Suspect Arrested in Today's Shooting in Kemper County
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2744 Porterville Road, Porterville, MS 39352, in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies located one victim inside the residence with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Witnesses reported that a disturbance had occurred inside the residence, during which firearms were produced and one individual was struck.
After the incident, the suspect exited the residence and fled into a wooded area east of the location. While additional units were responding, deputies were flagged down by an individual attempting to pick up the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Following the securing of the residence and the completion of emergency operations, deputies and conservation officers with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks conducted a grid search of the wooded area. The firearm involved in the shooting was located a short time later in the wood line along the roadway.
The suspect has been identified as Duntavious Mosley, of Shuqualak, MS. Mosley has been charged with one count of Murder and is currently being held in the Kemper County Jail. He is scheduled for an initial appearance on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Kemper County Courthouse.
