MERIDIAN, Mississippi -- The City of Meridian, Mississippi, and the Meridian Police Department are preparing for a safe and fun Halloween, beginning with the department's annual Spooktacular Trunk or Treat celebration on Thursday, October 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Police Headquarters, 510 22nd Avenue South.
The free, family-friendly event will feature candy, cotton candy, popcorn, a live DJ and a haunted van. Children ages 12 and under are invited to attend accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“Halloween should be a time for children to have fun and for families to make memories,” said Assistant Police Chief Dareall Thompson. “Events like this give our officers an opportunity to connect with the families we serve. We want everyone to enjoy the celebration, but we also want safety to remain a priority.”
Official citywide trick-or-treating will take place Saturday , October 31st.
The Meridian Police Department reminds parents and guardians to keep children accompanied by responsible adults, wear visible costumes, visit well-lit neighborhoods, use sidewalks and designated crossings, and inspect candy before children eat it.
Drivers are also encouraged to slow down and remain especially alert for children and families throughout the evening.
“Our message is simple,” Thompson added. “Have fun, look out for one another, and help us make this a safe Halloween for every family in Meridian.”
