Body Found in Wayne County ; Authorities Say Preliminary Autopsy Indicates Accidental Death
WAYNE COUNTY, Miss. — The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has released new information regarding the discovery of a deceased woman found in the Chickasawhay River on July 6.
According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies, investigators, and Sheriff Jerry Mosley responded after boaters called 911 to report a body floating in the river. The woman was located approximately seven-tenths of a mile south of the Highway 184 Boat Ramp, west of Waynesboro.
Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that the woman's death was accidental. Sheriff Mosley said the autopsy revealed no signs of foul play.
Authorities have not yet identified the deceased. Due to the condition of the body, officials said positive identification will require DNA testing by the Mississippi State Crime Laboratory. The testing process is expected to take several weeks.
Until DNA results are completed, investigators say they have no additional information regarding the woman's identity.
