MPD Cruiser Damaged; Possible Gunfire Under Investigation

A Meridian Police Department patrol cruiser was damaged over the weekend in the county.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office responded to Highway 496, where deputies discovered the rear window of a patrol SUV had been shattered. The patrol vehicle was parked at the home of an off-duty officer at the time of the incident.

Witnesses in the area reported hearing what sounded like gunshots. However, no shell casings or rounds were located at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
