Three More Arrested in Connection With September 12 North Hills Street Shootout

The Meridian Police Department has made three additional arrests in connection with the September 12 shootout on North Hills Street near the Texaco gas station. The arrests bring the number of suspects charged in connection with the incident to four.

Jaqaylen Lewis has been charged with armed robbery and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Lacraig Gordon faces two counts of shooting into a dwelling, with bond set at $100,000. Demarcus Jones has also been charged with armed robbery, with bond set at $250,000. Lewis and Gordon were both taken into custody Monday, September 21, at the Meridian High School campus.

A Quitman High School student was also arrested in connection with the shooting. The suspect, identified as Jazerion Wallace of Clarke County, is charged with one count of shooting into a vehicle, two counts of shooting into a dwelling, and one count of drive-by shooting. His bond was initially reported at $200,000

Gunfire erupted around 2 a.m. Saturday, September 12, on North Hills Street near the Texaco gas station. Witnesses reported hearing more than 40 shots, and investigators recovered numerous shell casings from the area.

According to preliminary information, an argument or robbery reportedly began at a nearby restaurant before spilling into the parking lot of the gas station, where the shooting occurred. A gas pump was struck, a window at the business was hit multiple times and shattered, and additional damage was reported along the building’s exterior wall.

No one was reported struck at the gas station, although at least one vehicle was allegedly hit by gunfire. Across the street, three windows at a dental office were found with apparent bullet holes. It has not been confirmed whether that damage was directly connected to the North Hills Street shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing as Meridian Police continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and whether additional charges will be filed.
