Lauderdale County, MS Sheriff's Office Press Release

On Saturday, November 29th, at approximately 1:30 p.m., two inmates at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility were involved in an altercation. The incident occurred in a bathroom on the ground floor of one of the housing pods. Detention officers, along with the on-duty nurse, responded and provided medical care until the arrival of Metro Ambulance. Due to the severity of his injuries, one inmate was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to a medical facility in Jackson for further treatment.

Because of the seriousness of the injuries, the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department requested the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations to conduct an independent investigation into the incident. No detention officers were involved.

The safety and security of all individuals in our facility remain a top priority. We will continue to cooperate fully with investigators and take every measure necessary to maintain a safe environment for both inmates and staff.
