Woman Dies After Shooting in Meridian; Suspect in Custody
Meridian, MS — Authorities confirm that the woman who was critically injured in a Saturday night shooting in Meridian has died from her injuries.
According to the Meridian Police Department (MPD), officers — along with Metro and the Meridian Fire Department — responded to the 500 block of 11th Avenue just before 10 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, they found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman was initially transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to Jackson, Mississippi, for further treatment. Police announced Sunday afternoon that she has since succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators say the suspect fled the scene after the shooting but was apprehended around 1 a.m. Sunday. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
MPD officials say more details regarding this case — as well as updates on the recent Manning Street homicide investigation — will be shared during a press conference scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at police headquarters.
This is a developing story.
