Jackson Reports 7th Homicide of 2026

Jackson, MS – February 16, 2026

The Jackson Police Department is investigating the city’s 7th homicide of the year. Chief Tyree Jones released a statement following the incident.

Police responded around 12:30 a.m. Monday to the 1600 block of Raymond Road after a male was found lying in a parking lot. Upon arrival, officers discovered the male had sustained at least one gunshot wound.

The victim is described as a Black male, approximately 30 years old. It is currently unknown how long the individual had been at the scene before police arrived. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

No motive has been established at this time. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Jackson Police Department. Chief Tyree Jones stated that the department is actively investigating and asks the public to come forward with any information that may assist in solving the case.
