Choctaw County Resident Arrested After Alleged Threats Against Synagogues
Needham, AL — October 28, 2025
Federal and local authorities arrested a Choctaw County man late last night after reportedly uncovering a plot involving planned acts of violence against multiple synagogues across Alabama and neighboring states.
According to officials, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the 1st Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, and the 1st Judicial Circuit Special Response Team (SRT) were alerted to credible threats of violence made online and through other communications. Investigators quickly identified a suspect residing in Needham, Alabama as the source of the threats.
The SRT executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home, where they took Jeremy Wayne Shoemaker into custody. Authorities reported seizing multiple weapons, a suitcase filled with ammunition, body armor, and other materials allegedly connected to the suspect’s plans.
Investigators said that Shoemaker had expressed intentions of not being taken alive and may have also been planning attacks against public figures.
The FBI confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and will likely involve multiple federal agencies. Federal charges are expected, in addition to local charges of resisting arrest and certain persons forbidden (possession of firearms by a prohibited individual).
Officials praised the quick response and preparedness of the 1st Judicial Circuit SRT, which consists of specially trained deputies and officers from several local departments.
“Having a local team with such training, capabilities, and ability to immediately respond prevented multiple violent acts with minimal incident,” an FBI field officer said.Authorities thanked participating agencies including Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Police Department, Grove Hill Police Department, Thomasville Police Department, and Butler Police Department for their coordination and assistance.
This remains an active investigation, and more information is expected as federal charges are filed. Choctaw County Sheriff's Office - Photo - Clarke County Sheriffs Office, Alabama
