Grandmother Dies From Gunshot in Meridian

Meridian, Miss. — The Meridian Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim near Manning Street and 46th Avenue around 5 p.m. Friday.

According to authorities, a man walked into the Meridian Police Department on 22nd Avenue and confessed to allegedly shooting his grandmother.

Emergency personnel from MPD, MFD, and Metro Ambulance arrived at the scene, and the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The victim has been identified as Sandra Goodwin, 78, of Meridian. She later succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released. Judge Dustin Markham has ordered that the suspect be held without bond, citing concerns that he poses a threat to the public. The suspect is scheduled for reevaluation on November 3.

A press conference with the Meridian Police Department is scheduled for Monday at 9:30 a.m., where officials are expected to release additional details about the case.
