MBI INVESTIGATING OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN DESOTO COUNTY

JACKSON, Miss., - The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Desoto County Sheriff’s Office that occurred at a residence on Bankston Road in Nesbit, Mississippi.

Deputies were responding to a noise complaint at a residence. Upon arrival, the deputies were approached by a group of individuals and advised that the subject had been discharging a weapon. Deputies were able to locate the subject fleeing into a wooded area. The subject later came out of the wooded area and displayed the weapon towards the deputies resulting in the deputies discharging their weapons at the subject. The subject received fatal injuries. No deputies were physically injured during the encounter.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
