Victim Dies Following Early Morning Shooting in Meridian

Meridian recorded its second homicide of the year early Sunday morning after a shooting outside a local organization left one person dead.

The Meridian Police Department responded around 1:30 a.m. to a scuffle in the parking lot of the Council of Organizations, Inc., located at 814 45th Avenue in Meridian.

As officers arrived on scene, a shot suddenly rang out, striking one individual. Sources say the victim suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect was described as a Black male wearing a gray hoodie who fled the scene on foot, heading north along 44th Avenue.

At this time, it remains unclear whether an arrest has been made.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Jaqwavion Carlisle of Meridian.
