Message from Chief Malachi Sanders

“As we head into homecoming week here in Meridian, I want every citizen every parent and every student to hear this message clearly— our officers will be out in full force. This weekend, every available resource of the Meridian Police Department will be dedicated to keeping our community safe.

This is a time for celebration of school, pride, and unity. However, it is also a time when we must be vigilant. Our goal is simple— to make sure everyone who comes out and enjoys Meridian high school’s homecoming festivities, wherever they may be, can do it in a safe and secure environment.

We will have increased patrols, both on foot and in vehicles around the parade routes, the football game at Ray Stadium, and all community events. We are also coordinating closely with the Mississippi Highway patrol and other local agencies to ensure a visible and unified law enforcement presence across our city.

Let me be clear— we intend to keep the peace. Our plan of action is direct:

Protect our citizens.

Prevent disturbances before they happen.

Respond quickly and decisively when needed.

We will not tolerate reckless behavior, illegal activity, or anything that threatens the safety of our residents and our visitors.

We want you to know that we also approach this weekend with understanding— especially for our young people. Homecoming is a special moment in every student’s life, and we want them to enjoy it responsibly surrounded by family and friends in a spirit of community pride.

We’re asking our citizens and our public to do their part. Cooperation between citizens and law-enforcement is a real key in helping keep Meridian safe.

In closing our message is simple: Enjoy homecoming and celebrate safely. Just know that your Meridian Police Department is on duty, visible and committed to protecting you. This weekend, all hands are on deck. Your safety is our top priority and together we’ll make this a great and safe homecoming for Meridian.

Thank you all and Go, Wildcats!!”
