Arrest of Double Murder Suspect in Brandon This Morning
Matthew Brian KIDD was arrested early this morning at a hotel in Brandon. KIDD is a suspect in two murders over the past two days.
On the morning of Wednesday, August 27th, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a deceased person in the 3300 block of Highway 80. Deputies responded to the scene and found William Earl Morris deceased of apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators developed suspects in the case and began following leads in the case. Matthew Brian KIDD was developed as a suspect in the case.
The evening of Thursday, August 28th, the Brandon Police Department received a call of gunshot victim on Gayden Street. The circumstances of Brandon’s shooting closely matched the shooting out in the county.
Information sharing and cooperation resulted in connecting the two murders. Brandon Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office worked together and developed evidence that Matthew Brian KIDD was the suspect in both cases.
Early this morning law enforcement received a tip that Matthew Brian KIDD had checked into a hotel in Brandon. The observant witness had seen the local news and recognized KIDD as being a wanted person.
Brandon Police Department and Rankin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams responded to the hotel and executed a search warrant that Brandon PD had obtained. Matthew Brian KIDD was taken into custody without incident. A weapon was also recovered from the room.
Matthew Brian KIDD was taken into custody and charged with both of the murders. Additionally KIDD with be charged with Home Invasion x 2 and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon.
District Attorney Bubba Bramlett will bring Matthew Brian KIDD before Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow Jr. and Brandon Municipal Judge Whitney Adams respectively for an initial appearance.
