PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

On September 28, 2025 at 9:30 PM, the Newton Police Department and Newton County Sheriff Department conducted simultaneous search warrants on two residences in connection with the incident that occurred on Saturday, September 27, 2025 on Decatur Street.

The Newton Police Department has issued a notice for the following individuals connected to this investigation:

Pervis Word - B/M - DOB: 06/02/1997

James F. Gordon - B/M - DOB: 06/21/2004

“I want to start by wishing the victim in this incident a speedy recovery as we continue to keep him lifted in prayer. The Newton Police Department will not tolerate this type of behavior. As seen last night, we will use every resource and means that we can to make sure our community is not damaged again. If you are harboring these individuals, expect us to execute a search and arrest warrant at your residence as well with all of the bells and whistles. The days of terrorizing our city with no consequences are over. There is no warning, only a promise. We are thankful for the coordination and partnership with the Newton County Sheriff Department. It was a complete team effort last night!”
