Impaired Driver Arrested After Rear-Ending School Bus, Leaving Scene-Neshoba County Sheriff's Office

On February 3, 2026, at approximately 3:59 p.m., a pickup truck rear-ended a school bus at 13191 Highway 488 in the Hope Community. The caller reported that the vehicle involved was a champagne-colored Ford Explorer that left the scene and sustained significant damage.

At approximately 4:05 p.m., a deputy located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 488 near County Road 339. During the traffic stop, the deputy identified both the driver and passenger as impaired. Both subjects were taken into custody shortly after the stop.

The school bus driver advised that all passengers were unharmed, and no injuries were reported. Mississippi Highway Patrol responded and worked the crash scene.

Stanley Barrentine – Driver

Leaving the scene of an accident

Disorderly conduct

17 counts of child endangerment

Driving under the influence (2nd offense)

No driver’s license

No proof of insurance

Kristy Kig – Passenger

Contempt of court

Public intoxication

Disorderly conduct (failure to comply)

Obstructing traffic

Providing false identification information

Littering
